If there was any doubt that Metro Boomin’ did anything other than eat, sleep and make beats his most recent swath of work should squash it. A week after dropping the joint tape Without Warning with 21 Savage and Offset, Metro teams up with Big Sean for their latest collaboration, “Pull Up N Wreck.”
Released November 3, 2017, the track is an uptempo slaughterhouse of bass and precise drum work and features the aforementioned 21 Savage. Big Sean brings out a performance that relies on shorter verse structure, moving away from his preference for longer, anecdotally driven bars as heard on his last album I Decided. Rapping, “Y’all wanna ball, I’m Stan Van Gundy/ She wanna hang with me and ‘Ye, she know that’s good company,” Sean showcases his longstanding tradition of incorporating double entendres, playing up his affiliation with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music all while showing love for his hometown Detroit Pistons.
21, on the other hand, comes through with his murder-laced lines, sparing no expense to assure any and all disrespect isn’t taken lightly. The Metro-Sean-21 triad works surprisingly well, given Big Sean has made great strides to distance himself from his cornier “I woke up working like I’m Mexican!” days.
